Year in review: 2019

Before the rest of December becomes a blur of Christmas events and celebrations, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your continued support this year and take a look back at what we’ve been up to behind-the-scenes here at South Downs Water HQ.

Doing our bit for the planet ?

Environmental consciousness has always been one of South Downs Water’s core values. This year, we made some changes to our packaging that eliminated an incredible 15 tonnes of plastic. Our Greener Deliveries initiative continues to thrive and supplying South Downs Water locally, within a 40 mile radius, we can keep lowering our carbon footprint.

These changes were small but mighty, you may not even notice them but the planet will!

This year, we have:

  • Changed to a lighter weight bottle – reducing the plastic content
  • Reduced the bottle neck height – reducing the plastic content
  • Reduced the cap depth – reducing the plastic content
  • Changed our sports cap lid to a flip close lid – reducing the plastic content and eliminating the throw away cap
  • Replaced our plastic cup to a paper cup for our water coolers

And we are not stopping there! More exciting product changes are in development and we will be revealing all in the new year.

Can you keep a secret? ?

We’ve been spending a lot of time behind-the-scenes developing new ways to draw on our sustainability progress in 2019 and we’re pleased to share a preview of bigger changes on the horizon at South Downs Water.

From January 2020, South Downs Water’s 330ml and 500ml bottles will be made from 100 percent recycled plastic (rPET) in a bid to keep plastic in the circular system and out of the rivers, oceans and our beautiful countryside. Spring 2020 will see the launch of South Downs Water cans! We’ll be revealing further information in the new year.

In the meantime, if your brand is interested in collaborating with us around either product launch, please do get in touch.

Award winning ?

We’re ending the year on a high here at South Downs Water HQ and popping the sparkling (…water, of course!) after scooping Best Hospitality Industry Mineral Water Supplier – South England at Luxlife Magazine’s 2019 Food & Drink Awards.

You can read more about the award in via on the South Downs Water blog.

‘Tis (always) the season for giving ?

We’ve continued to support local charities and organisations throughout 2019. Notably, the eighth annual Children on the Edge Chichester Half Marathon raised a fantastic £28,231 to support its work with vulnerable children around the world. Over 1,200 runners registered for the event which is one of Children on the Edge’s key fundraising events throughout the year which South Downs Water supports. Our work with St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Stonepillow has also continued.

We also we opened our doors to help Wave 105 with its ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign. This charity makes sure that disadvantaged children in our area, aged 0-18, get a Christmas present this year.

We hope that you’ve had a similarly successful year and wish you all the best over the busy holiday season.
