We don’t treat our water because we don’t need to.
Our water is untouched at source producing water of unrivalled quality and taste.
South Downs Water is drawn from an artesian well located 420ft below ground level just outside the historic city of Chichester, on the border of Sussex and Hampshire, UK.
Since discovering the source over 30 years ago, we’ve been on a mission to share our award-winning water along the South Coast and beyond.
Why drink water from anywhere else when you have South Downs Water right on your doorstep?
Enriched with minerals from deep within the South Downs, our water holds the prestigious Natural Mineral Water Status by the UK government meaning that, unlike Spring Water, it is untouched and untreated when bottled at source.
Why? Thanks to the wonderfully deep chalky layers of the South Downs, our water is filtered naturally and maintains a stable composition without need for any artificial treatments. The only exception we make is when adding a touch of refreshing bubbles to our sparkling range.
The result is exceptionally fresh water that’s naturally high in calcium and low in sodium and unrivalled in quality. As pure as nature intended.
In order to share our wholesome water with as many people as possible, we’ve made sure South Downs Water is available in a variety of different volumes. From 19l office water coolers through to glass and 100% recycled plastic 330ml on-the-go sizes, we deliver directly to offices, hotels, restaurants, venues, pubs, schools and private homes across Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey, and London. We also use regional distributors for orders from further afield.

It’s no secret that we love the South Downs. Being ever-thankful to our provenance for providing us with the very best water, we’re constantly looking for ways to package and deliver our water in the most sustainable ways. In addition to glass bottles, our plastic 330ml and 500ml bottles are made from 100% recycled materials. What’s the difference between South Downs Water and Spring Water?
Natural mineral water must come from an identified and protected source. It is guaranteed to be consistent in composition and naturally wholesome without any treatment – except in some cases the addition of carbon dioxide to make the water sparkle. This status is only granted to waters that are demonstrated to be free from pollution and have a characteristic stable composition.
Certain treatments are permitted for Spring Water.
Our water is regularly tested to ensure that the high levels of purity are maintained.
South Downs Water is low in Sodium and has a pH value of 7.5
“The Downs… too much for one pair of eyes, enough to float a whole population in happiness.”
