Hydration While Travelling: Small Habits That Make a Big Difference

Simple ways to stay well hydrated, even when you’re on the move. Whether you’re heading into the city for a meeting, travelling across the country for a weekend away, or catching a flight abroad, travel has a way of disrupting even the most well-established routines. One of the first things to fall by the wayside is often hydration while travelling.

Even light dehydration can leave you feeling a bit foggy or sluggish, especially when paired with long journeys, dry cabin air or busy schedules. But a few small shifts can make staying hydrated feel easy, not like another thing to remember.

1. Carry water you actually want to drink

It sounds simple, but having water you like makes all the difference. Whether that’s a favourite refillable bottle or South Downs Water in one of our easy-to-pack cans or 100% recyclable bottles that are perfect for throwing in your bag on the go.

2. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty

Thirst often appears when your body’s already slightly dehydrated. Try sipping regularly rather than all at once. A good rhythm to aim for is before you leave, halfway through your journey, and again when you arrive.

3. Account for the environment

Air conditioning, heating, altitude and long stretches of talking, like meetings, can all leave you needing a bit more fluid than usual. Keeping a small bottle nearby is often enough to remind you to take a sip.

4. Build it into the day

Water isn’t just something you grab when you remember. It can be part of the plan. Refill your bottle when you make your morning coffee. Pop a can into your bag like you would your charger or keys. These small habits can add up.

5. Add water-rich foods

Fruits like melon, strawberries, oranges or grapes can support hydration if you’re snacking on the go. A bottle of water and a tub of grapes can go a surprisingly long way.

Whether you’re travelling for work, rest or something in between, keeping hydrated helps you feel clear-headed and ready for what’s next. South Downs Water is naturally filtered through the chalk of the South Downs National Park and offers a crisp, refreshing option to take with you wherever you’re headed.
