How to stay hydrated

Making up two thirds of our body, water is vitally important for the healthy function of every system including our heart, joints, skin, brain and muscles.

Most people need about 1.5 to 2 litres of fluid a day, which is the equivalent of around eight to 10 glasses. We’ve pulled together some top tips to help you hit your daily hydration target.

Mix it up

You can’t beat the purity of fresh cold water (especially South Downs Natural Mineral Water!) but sometimes it’s good to mix it up.

Adding lemon, lime, grapefruit or cucumber (or any of your favourite fruit) to your water is a naturally delicious way to add some flavour.

Add some sparkle ✨

Adding a touch of sparkle never goes a miss here at South Downs Water HQ. Our sparkling water doesn’t contain any sugar or sweeteners and is a great alternative to still water. It’s low in sodium and high in calcium, thanks to filtering through deep chalky layers of the South Downs.

Eat your water

Fruit and vegetables contain lots of water. At  around 96%, lettuce and cucumber have the highest water content of any food. Watermelon, blueberries and pineapples contain around 95% water.

Smoothies

If you’re a fan of smoothies, you can use ice to thicken your smoothie, rather than yoghurt or milk.

Tea and coffee

Tea and coffee can also count towards your overall water intake, but remember to watch your caffeine intake.

Little and often

It’s important to keep topped up throughout the day. Ensuring you have a glass or a bottle nearby as a reminder to keep drinking can help.
