South Downs Water joins Recycle Now for UK Recycle Week

This week, we’re joining Recycle Now’s 17th annual Recycle Week (21-27 September) to thank our customers, staff and local community for continuing to recycle despite all that has happened this year. 

Statistics released by Recycle Now show that through lockdown the UK has become even more environmentally aware, with nearly 9 in 10 households saying they ‘regularly recycle’.  Coming out of lockdown, more people are prepared to change their lifestyles to help the environment: 73 per cent, up from 68 per cent in 2019. And an amazing 93 per cent of UK households say they believe that ‘everyone has a responsibility to help towards cleaning up the environment’.

We’re marking the week by encouraging everyone in Sussex, Hampshire and beyond to continue recycling as much as possible by thinking globally, acting locally and recycling responsibly. 

Will Windsor, Managing Director, South Downs Water, said: “We’ve always seen it as a priority to look after our provenance, and preserve it for the people who live, work and enjoy the region. We are committed to using recycled materials in our products and supply chain whilst keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum. 

“We also recognise that it is our obligation to encourage our customers to keep recycling bottles so we can make them into new bottles, time and time again. This Recycle Week, we encourage everyone to think globally, act locally and recycle responsibly. 

Most notably, South Downs Water became one of the first UK bottled drink companies to make its plastic bottles from entirely recycled materials (100% rPET) –  a pivotal moment in the company’s ongoing sustainability journey which includes a Greener Delivery initiative and a recyclable wider supply chain.

This is something we can all do, wherever we live – an individual action that, when performed by everyone, adds up to a huge change.

“Recycle Week this year is an opportunity to thank everyone for continuing to recycle, whatever their circumstances and to celebrate the way we have all pulled together. There has been a positive leap forward in attitudes that we must capitalise on so we can do even better in the coming year!”
