Back to School? Back to Work? Make sure you keep hydrated! Hydration is essential for every aspect of a healthy life and at South Downs Water we want to make sure you know the importance of drinking enough water. Here are 10 Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water...

Brain boost A study in London found a link between students bringing water into an exam room and better grades, suggesting H2O promotes clearer thinking. While it’s unclear if drinking the water had anything to do with better grades, it doesn’t hurt to try it out!

Productivity boost Since your brain is approximately 75% water drinking it helps you think, focus and concentrate better. Water helps us stay refreshed and alert.

Tiredness buster As you increase your water consumption you can feel more energized, more alert and awake, water can help fight those tired eyes too.

Sickness fighter Water may help with decongestion and dehydration, helping the body bounce back when feeling under the weather.

Clearer, younger looking skin Water flushes out toxins and can reduce the risk of spots and pimples. Hydrated skin can look and feel healthier giving a more youthful, radiant appearance – it’s the best anti-aging treatment around!

Calorie control Drinking water could also help with weight loss. Numerous studies have found a connection between water consumption and losing pounds. The reason? Water raises your metabolism, helps you feel full and as a result consume fewer calories.

Pain prevention A little water can really go a long way. Aching joints, headaches and muscle cramps and strains can all occur if the body is dehydrated.

Fluid balance Roughly 60% of the body is made of water. Drinking enough H2O maintains the body’s fluid balance which helps transport nutrients in the body, regulate body temperature, digest food and more.

Muscle fuel When the muscles don’t have enough water, they get tired. So drink water to keep muscles strong and energised.

Kidney function Our kidneys process 200 quarts of blood daily, sifting out waste and transporting urine to the bladder. Kidneys need enough fluids to clear away what we don’t need in the body. Let's drink to that!

Are you getting enough?

The experts have always said, on average, that eight eight-ounce glasses per day will suffice. However, that might not be enough. While eight is great, amounts really need to be tailored to meet the needs of every individual.

There are three important rules when it comes to drinking water:   Drink twice as much as it takes to quench your thirst Drink frequently throughout the day to prevent dehydration Drink at least eight glasses daily, or one cup for every 20 pounds of body weight.

Signs you are not getting enough...

  • Dry, sticky mouth
  • Sleepiness or tiredness
  • Thirst
  • Decreased urine output
  • Few or no tears while crying
  • Headache, dizziness, or light headedness
  • Constipation

Prevention is always better than cure so make sure you drink water and stay hydrated!
