About Our Natural Mineral Water

High in calcium and low in sodium

South Downs water is classified as a Natural Mineral Water. This is the top of tree in the water world – originating from a natural, protected and protected underground source. Naturally wholesome, without any treatment, South Downs Natural Mineral Water has a consistently stable composition and is bottled at source.

The prestigious "Natural Mineral Water" status is only granted to waters that are demonstrated to be free from pollution and are microbiologically safe to drink without treatment. We are proud to produce local mineral water which goes through no chemical or treatment processes before it reaches you.

Our Natural Mineral Water is filtered through the Chalk of the South Downs (Kingley Vale). Being a Natural Mineral Water nothing is added or taken away, as pure as nature intended. As such, it is naturally high in Calcium and low in Sodium.

South Downs Natural Mineral Water is drawn from an artesian well 420ft underground and enriched with minerals from deep within the South Downs.
It is refreshingly pure, just as nature intended.

Our Ethos

It's Simple...

South Downs Water Co. takes its responsibilities to the environment seriously. Our glass and plastic bottle suppliers (based in the U.K.) use recycled materials and we recycle our 19L and 11L bottles in-house. Our caps and our packaging are both 100% recyclable. We return or re-use the plastic pallets.

Carbon Footprint

Our Carbon Footprint is kept to a minimum as we buy from U.K. suppliers, deliver only within a forty mile radius and for the most part to our South Coast community.

In 2015, we donated water and support to many local charities including St Wilfrids Hospice, Chichester and Children on the Edge, a Chichester based charity that gives childhood back to forgotten children around the world. We donated over £1,500 to Fresh2O – Water for Life to help purchase life saving water filters to villages in the poorest parts of the world.

Let's get technical

What's the difference between Natural Mineral Water and Spring Water?

Natural Mineral Water

Natural mineral water must come from an identified and protected source. It is guaranteed to be consistent in composition and naturally wholesome without any treatment – except in some cases the addition of carbon dioxide to make the water sparkle. Natural Mineral Water status is only granted to waters that are demonstrated to be free from pollution and have a characteristic stable composition.

Spring Water

Certain treatments are permitted for Spring Water.
